WHO IS GERRY NAVARRO?

GOD. FAMILY. COUNTRY

Gerry began his journey in public service in 1971 with the U.S. Marine Corps after completing Military Police school. His dedication took him to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, and later to MCAS El Toro, California, where he was entrusted with Presidential Security/Military Police responsibilities. After rising to the rank of Sergeant, Gerry received an honorable discharge and chose Arizona as his new home in 1978. He joined the Coolidge Police Department and served as a Police Officer, Firefighter, and EMT.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety recognized his potential, and during his tenure, Gerry was honored with numerous awards, including 5 Director's Unit Citations and the prestigious Officer of the Year Award by the Department of Public Safety and the Fraternal Order of Police.

Bridging Borders and Building Communities

In 1984, Gerry took on the role of Border Liaison Officer in Nogales, where he dedicated himself to recovering stolen vehicles, aircraft, and strengthening cross-border relations. His commitment to community safety led him to the Gang Intelligence unit in 2007, from which he retired in 2010.

A true advocate for international collaboration, Gerry was among the founding officers of PISA, Policia Internacional Sonora Arizona, and went on to lead as its Director and President. Beyond borders, Gerry shared his expertise as an instructor for the FBI on auto theft investigations and further contributed to international law enforcement training with the Department of Justice in Guatemala, Nicaragua, and El Salvador.

A Lifelong Dedication To Community

Gerry's commitment to his community shines through in every role he has taken on. From guiding young minds as a Scout Master to fostering teamwork as a Little League President, Coach, and Umpire. His dedication is unwavering. In his retirement, Gerry continues to serve, actively participating in his Church and various community initiatives, even leading as the President of his HOA.

Celebrating 51 years of marriage with his wife, Blanca, and cherishing moments with their three children and six grandchildren, Gerry understands the value of family and community.

THE PLATFORM

PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY

Our health is not a partisan issue; it affects each and every one of us, regardless of our political affiliation. We need leaders who prioritize the well-being of our citizens above all else. Furthermore, health and wellness extend beyond physical health; they encompass mental and emotional well-being too. We must prioritize policies that reduce stigma around mental health issues and ensure that everyone has access to the mental health support they need.

Health and wellness of our county should always take precedence over politics and personal beliefs. Public Safety goes hand in hand with health. We need to be able to feel safe in our person and our belongings. The right to defend ourselves should not be up for debate. Our law enforcement needs to be properly trained in de-escalation techniques and be provided with the proper equipment of less than lethal options.The communications equipment is very outdated and needs to be replaced immediately. It posses a danger to the entire community. This warrants a more proactive response from our Law Enforcement Leaders and Supervisors.

In conclusion, the health and safety of our county should always take precedence over politics and personal beliefs. We need leaders who prioritize evidence-based decision-making, and are committed to the well-being of all citizens. It is our responsibility to hold our leaders accountable.

JOBS

In this beautiful Santa Cruz County, we find ourselves in a situation where our citizens are facing a critical shortage of jobs. Our hardworking residents are struggling to make ends meet. Santa Cruz County, with its unique position on the border and its vibrant community, holds immense potential. Yet, we find ourselves falling short in harnessing the full power of this potential to create jobs. It's not just about statistics; it's about real people, their families, and their dreams.

But I stand before you today with a message of hope and a plan for action. We must come together as a community, transcending political divisions, and prioritize the creation of sustainable, well-paying jobs in Nogales and throughout Santa Cruz County.

First and foremost, we need to invest in local businesses and entrepreneurs who are the lifeblood of our community. By providing incentives, reducing bureaucratic red tape, and fostering an environment where small businesses can thrive, we can create jobs right here in our hometown. Whether it's agriculture, manufacturing, technology, or renewable energy, we have the capacity to diversify our economy and bring new opportunities to our residents.

Education and training programs that equip our workforce with the skills needed for the jobs of the future are paramount. Every day, I listen to your stories. Stories of young couples trying to buy their first home, of entrepreneurs aiming to expand their businesses, of retirees working hard to ensure a comfortable life after years of service. And amidst these stories, one message comes out loud and clear: the weight of our current tax burden is too much.

Santa Cruz County is known for its community spirit, its resilience, and its dedication to the values that have made our nation great.

However, it's becoming increasingly clear that our current tax system is not aligned with these principles. Instead of facilitating growth and prosperity, it is becoming an obstacle.

High taxes hinder new businesses from setting up shop here. They prevent our youth from buying homes and starting families in the area where they grew up and they strain the pockets of every individual, especially those on fixed incomes who are trying to make ends meet.

I understand the importance of taxes. They fund essential services, maintain our infrastructure, and ensure our community remains a wonderful place to live.

But, ladies and gentlemen, there’s a balance to be struck. We must ask ourselves: Are our tax dollars being used efficiently? Are we getting value for our money? And most importantly, are the current tax rates fair to the hard-working people of Santa Cruz County?

It's time we reassess our priorities. It's time to streamline our expenses, eliminate waste, and ensure that every penny is accounted for and spent wisely. By doing this, we can provide relief to our residents without compromising on the essential services that make our county great.
